I've Been Diluted

Here is a photo of me taken about a year and a half ago. Notice the vibrant colors of my hair coat? Such a handome dude, I should be in movies.

Now here is a photo of me going for a walk this morning. See anything different? My hair is changing colors!

Sheesh, even the dead leaves around my feet have more color than me! I've gone from white with black and red spots to a much paler white with blue and tan. The only place that resembles the old me is a few spots where I had chewed myself this summer when the itchies were at their worst. Those bald places came back in the nice, old colors. Sorta makes me look like a Catahoula Leopard Dog, or maybe a blue merle Collie. Pay no attention to the spread of my hips.

I don't understand. Does it have something to do with being clipped instead of stripped? Age? Too many baths (I'm voting for this one)? Glynn is very pale-colored, too. Cap is the oldest, and he has the best coloring of all.

Oh well, I'll be turning seven right after the first of the year, so I guess those old greyish hairs are creeping in on me. Don't let outward appearances fool you, though. I'm still a puppy at heart!

I agree you are wagging handsome Tell either way. It is to do with clipping instead of stripping. Fades when you are clipped. But go back to stripping and eventually the colour will come back!!Dog, aren't we clever? Those baldie patches where you chew - you must be doing a self strip there!!!

Hi Tell

I, Molly, was very grey when I first came to my new furever home, As they now strip me a couple of times a year my darker colour is slowly returning. It is all to do with the undercoat. All sounds very technical to me. Hey ho.

Have a happy weekend.

Hi Tell! They SAY it is from clipping instead of stripping. Of course we don't know who THEY are! We get clipped too and our black saddles now have a lot of brown streaks...so maybe THEY are right! Whatever! Mom isn't going to pay the fortune they want to hand strip us! You still look very handsome to us! Maybe the Furminator would help to restore some of your color. We don't know for sure! Just a thought!

You're still very handsome to us, Tell! My color is fading too because I'm clipped instead of stripped but I wonder if age could be a factor too? My face gets lighter and lighter as I get older!

Love ya lots,

Yep Tell....

Hate ta tell ya it's the clipper instead of the stripper...tell yer Mom she can get back some color just by runnin' a strippin' knife thru yer coat.....just drag it thru so it will take out the undercoat....takes awhile but the colors will come back......

Hey Tell -- Yep, it's the clipper. This is what we do to save some of our color and not experience the ouchies of stripping some sensitive spots or the cost of a professional stripping which akes us very nervous.

First we get furminated several times a month to get rid of the loose undercoat. Then, maybe every two or three months, Dogdad will pluck our ears and our faces and our jackets until he gets to the places on our backs where we don't like it at all. Then he'll get out the clippers and clip our undersides and lightly trim our furnishings and voila, the best of both worlds.

It's a pawsonal thing -- but we have read that it is healthier to strip a wire's jacket to get rid of the old hairs.

Regardless of your color, you are still one very handsome wire fox terrier!!!

Will,

I have to agree it's the clipper. When I got clipped I was all salt-n-pepper. You still look marvelous, it's just a different look for you. The groomer said when the dark follicles are cut it continues to grow out white from where it was cut instead of it's original dark color.

You are still a handsome dude.
